Number change -

 We shall learn more about number and gender. 

There are two numbers - Singular number and Plural number. 

Singular number me and single or one. Plural is formed by the word poly which means more than one. It means many.

Let's learn how to change  singular number into plural number. 

1. By adding 's' - 

Boy.     - boys

Girl.    - girls 

Table  - tables

Book.  - books

Room. - rooms

House - houses

2. By adding 'es'- 

Bus.       - buses

Bush.     - bushes

Brush.   - brushes

Box.       - boxes 

Class.     - Classes 

Quiz.      - quizzes 

Bench.    - benches

Trench.  - trenches

3. By adding 'ies' in place of 'y'-

Story.       - stories

Diary.       - diaries

Lady.         - ladies 

Baby.          - babies

Candy.        - candies

History.      - histories 

Mystery.     - mysteries 

Fairy.          - fairies

4. By adding  'ves' replacing  'f' or 'fe'-

Calf.           - calves

Wife.         - wives 

Knife.         - Knives

Thief.         - thieves

 5. By adding  's' or 'es' - 

Photo.         - photos

Tomato.      - tomatoes 

Potato         - potatoes 

Roof.           - roofs

Chief.         - chiefs

6. Miscellaneous - 

Child.         - children 

Ox.              - oxen

Tooth.         - Teeth

Foot.            - feet.

Louse.         - lice

Mouse.        - mice

7. Number of Pronouns -

I.                   - we

He.                - they

She.              - they

It.                  - they

You.              - you

Me                 - us

My.                 - our


Note - Knowledge of number is very important to write correct English & use correct verbs. 

Examples - 

1. Your feet .... small. (is/are) 

2. My left foot ... brown.  (is/are) 

3. These children. ... very smart. (is/are) 

4. ........ lady is very  beautiful.  (this/that)

5. All my .............. are very helpful. (friend /friends) 

6. I love all .......... . (person/people) 

7. Cat is running after these ...... . (mouse/mice)

8. I have sold all my ....... . (book/books)

9. All men ....... done their work.  (has/have)

10. Each ...... is very hardworking. (child/children) 

Note - Keep this in mind that only nouns have numbers. 

Change number (if applicable)- 

Woman, Bush, I, Feet, My, Roof, Ship, Lake, Mr, Street, Fairy, thief, Knife.
