Questions of the poem -
1. Describe the tiger in the zoo.
Answer - The tiger in the zoo is not happy. He is feeling very sad and depressed. He wants to be free but he is helpless. He has lost all interest in his surroundings. He only walks silently in the cage.
2. How will a tiger behave in the jungle?
Answer - A tiger will feel happy in the jungle. It is his natural habitat. He will enjoy his freedom there. He will not have to be confined to a small place. He can go anywhere and hunt animals freely.
3. What does the line - 'quiet rage' & 'paws of velvet ' mean?
Answer - These phrases show tiger's feelings in the cage. He is very sad and a bit angry there. But he is helpless as he cannot do anything. He is powerless in the cage. He walks very helplessly and does not want to be noticed.
4. What is the theme of this poem?
Answer - Leslie Norris wants to highlight the value of freedom here. Freedom is dear to each and every living being. Nothing is comparable to freedom. It is a natural virtue. He also conveys a message that human beings must not keep the animals in captivity.
5. How can you say that the tiger is happy in the jungle?
Answer- The tiger is moving freely or hiding among the bushes in search of his prey. He is not under any pressure there. He is his own master in the forest. He does what he loves and goes where he likes. He feels like a king in the forest.
