Pronouns - 2
Week have already discussed 4 parts of Pronouns ( Personal Pronoun, Reflexive Pronoun, Interrogative Pronoun & Demonstrative Pronoun in previous part.
Let's discuss more parts of Pronouns -
5. Relative Pronoun - These are pronouns which relate a noun as mentioned in the sentence.
Examples - who, which, what, whom, whose, that, where etc.
Example -
1. Who broke this window pane? Int. Pronoun
2. This is the boy who won the prize. Relatives Pronoun.
Try to know the difference between the two (relative Pronoun & int. Pronoun) .
3. Please tell me what your teacher said. (Relative Pronoun).
4. What is there in your bag? (Int. pronoun)
5. I have two books? Which is yours? (Int. Pronoun)
6. This is the school where I went to in my childhood. (Relative Pronoun)
7. Reema is the girl whose father is a doctor. (Relative Pronoun)
8. What is your elder brother? (Int. Pronoun) .
He is an engineer.
9. I met the architect who designed this building.
( relative Pronoun)
10. What do you need? (Int. Pronoun)
6. Possessive Pronoun -
A pronoun that suggests your ownership or possession etc is called Possessive Pronoun.
Note - you must note difference between Possessive Pronoun & Possessive adjective.
- 'My' is possessive adjective but 'mine' is possessive Pronoun.
- your' is possessive adjective but 'yours' is possessive Pronoun.
- 'her' is possessive adjective but 'hers' is possessive Pronoun.
- 'their' is possessive adjective but 'theirs' is possessive Pronoun.
- 'our' is possessive adjective but 'ours' is possessive Pronoun.
- 'his' is both possessive adjective & possessive Pronoun.
Example -
1. This is my book.
2. This book is mine.
3. Your school is very big.
4. That school is yours.
5. These are their fields.
6. These fields are theirs.
7. This pet is mine. It is not yours.
8. How are these books theirs?
7. Indefinite Pronoun - These pronouns show persons, places and things in general. These pronouns refer to indefinite things, places or persons.
Example - Some, some one, Some body, one, All, 'they', Any one, anybody etc.
1. Look! Someone is coming.
2. Anybody can do it.
3. One must Keep one's promise.
4. They say that the earth is round.
5. Be good to every one.
Note - These pronouns indicate common people, things, places etc.
8. Emphatic Pronoun - These pronouns refer to specific emphasis on the subject itself.
Example - myself, Ourselves, himself, herself, itself, yourself etc.
Note - Reflexive Pronoun & Emphatic Pronoun are same but they have different uses.
Example -
1. I blamed myself. (Reflexive Pronoun)
2. I myself blamed you. ( Emphatic Pronoun)
3. He cursed himself for hurting animals. (Reflexive Pronoun)
4. You can do it by yourself. (Emphatic Pronoun)
9. Distributive Pronoun - These Pronouns refer to individual nouns in Singular form in general sense.
Example - each, every, Neither, either etc.
1. Each of the students is a genius.
2. Every child is a player.
3. Neither of Rohit and Shobhit is selected.
4. Either of Rajesh and Shailesh is fit for games.
Note - 'Each other' & 'one another' are called Reciprocal Pronoun.
Example -
1. Sonu and Monu help each other.
2. His sons quarreled with one another.
