Verb - Part 1
Verb is one of the 8 parts of speech. It is the most important part. It is the base of each and every sentence.
No sentence can be formed without a verb.
Look at following sentences -
1. Delhi is the capital of India.
2. The baby is sleeping.
3. How do you know me?
4. The students had been busy for an hour.
5. I can speak French.
Above underlined words indicate verbs.
Types of Verb -
Verbs are of two types -
1. Helping Verb or Auxiliary Verb - These verbs help Main Verb to define the action or the sentence.
Examples - is, was, has, had, are, have, am, do, does, did etc.
2. Action Verb or Active Verb - These verbs are the main verb & show the action.
Every action Verb has three forms . Change of verb into three forms is called conjugation.
Example - Run, laugh, write, sing, sleep, dance, drive, make, smile etc.

Learn all these verbs. Remember that each action Verb has 3 forms.
1St form i.e. V1 is called Present Tense.
2nd form i.e. V2 is called Past Tense.
3rd form i.e. V3 is called Perfect Tense.
Note - Verb is the soul of a sentence. A sentence cannot be made without a verb. In other words, there must be a verb in every sentence.
Look at following sentences -
1. He is a farmer.
2. I eat mangoes daily.
3. She visited Delhi yesterday.
4. Who broke the window pane?
5. Raghu has done his work.
6. Shubhi is playing piano.
7. Romi was absent last night.
8. Sunil is running a saloon.
In above sentences, colour words are verbs.

Conjugation of Verb is of 2 types -
1. Regular Verb - When 2nd & 3rd forms are changed by adding - d, ed or ied (after removing 'y').
2. Irregular Verb - When spelling is changed in 2nd form & 3rd form.
